The following Vision Statement, Mission Statement and Statement of Faith appear in the PCCS Handbook and Staff Handbook and are incorporated by reference in the PCCS Enrollment Contract and in the staff employment process.
Vision Statement. The vision of Poetry Community Christian School is to (i) prepare students to be responsible and Christ-centered members of the community by partnering with parents in developing Christian character and academic proficiency, (ii) manage resources responsibly, (iii) continually enhance learning opportunities within a small-school setting, (iv) promote a nurturing and challenging academic environment, and (v) offer reasonable tuition rates to encourage economic diversity in enrollment.
Mission Statement. As reflected in the PCCS Bylaws, the PCCS mission is to lead and guide children through a unique and enriching Christ-centered educational experience consisting of: exemplary college-preparatory programming for core academics; enrichment electives beyond the three “R’s”; specialized instruction for students with learning differences; parent partnering for academic and organizational support; diverse and challenging learning opportunities; Christian teachers intent upon developing well-rounded character, fostering mutual respect, encouraging creativity, and promoting intellectual growth.
Statement of Faith. PCCS parents, students, administrators, teachers & staff believe and adhere to multi-denominational Christ-centered beliefs where conservative Biblical morals are an integral part of the PCCS admissions process and all other aspects of our school, including but not limited to: There is one God who created our world. We acknowledge the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is God’s Son, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life and died to atone for the sins of human kind. Jesus Christ arose from the grave, ascended into Heaven and has provided salvation for those who believe on Him. The Bible is God’s Holy guidance for our lives. Christian believers are to live in accordance with God’s commandments and to proclaim the gospel to all the world. The two greatest commandments are: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind,” and “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:37-39. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
The above Statement of Faith represents that PCCS is committed in belief and lifestyle to historical and conservative Biblical standards of morality and contains those concepts that we unreservedly believe and teach and expect of our enrolled families and staff members, including but not limited to, the Biblical definition of marriage as a single, exclusive union between one man and one woman (Gen. 2:18-25), the attendant boundaries of sexuality and moral conduct (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual/transsexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and involvement in pornography, 1 Cor. 6:18, 7:2-5 and Heb. 13:4), and the clear Biblical distinction to biological gender (Gen. 1:26-27) as established by God’s design and in His image. This Statement does not exhaust the extent of the school’s beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired Word of God, speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of individuals and is the sole and final source of all that we believe. The purposes herein, the school’s Officers and Board members are its final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application. In honoring this policy, there shall be no attempt made by parents, students, administrators, teachers or staff to promote or disparage any doctrinal or denominational beliefs, practices, or positions regarding issues upon which the school itself has assumed no official stance. We desire to remain united in the salvation and love of Christ, avoiding the dissension that may be caused by denominational distinctions.
As part of this Statement, PCCS reserves the right, within its sole discretion, to refuse admission of an applicant or to discontinue enrollment of a student if the atmosphere or conduct within a particular home or the activities of family members or the student at the school or elsewhere, including social media, are counter to or are in opposition to the conservative Biblical lifestyle the school espouses. This includes, but is not necessarily limited to, behavior that is inconsistent with the moral and religious principles of the school. (See Leviticus 20:13 and Romans 1:27).
Our first and foremost goal at PCCS is to glorify and honor God in all that we do. 1 Cor. 10:31, 1 Peter 4:11. In this regard, we will strive consistently to (a) acknowledge, both in word and deed, the scriptures as our highest rule and final authority for faith and practice in all matters, and (b) submit to the scriptures in all aspects of school operation in general and the academic program in particular.
