Why we need you...
Poetry Community Christian School is a fully accredited private school serving students in K-12th grades. The school, located in rural Poetry, Texas, serves a diverse group of families primarily from the middle to lower-middle income brackets. Families come to PCCS from many local communities, including Rockwall, Caddo Mills, Royse City, Terrell, Kaufman, Forney, Crandall, Mesquite, Rowlett, Greenville, Quinlan, Scurry, and Poetry. The school was established in 2002 and celebrated its Decade Anniversary last year in 2012.
To make tuition more affordable and encourage parent involvement, PCCS implemented an innovative "Parent Partnership Program." In this program, parents volunteer at least 5 hours per month for each student enrolled. This leads to nearly 2000 volunteer hours per month to support school operations and keep overhead down. Since most of our families come from the middle to lower-middle income brackets, this lower tuition enables them to send their children to a Christian school.
While our affordable tuition structure and conservative fiscal management keep PCCS solvent, it does not offer monies necessary for campus improvements or development or assist families needing financial aid.
That's where donations and fundraising play a role! We need your support to provide needed campus improvements such as the Decade Building (see below). Your support is tax-deductible!
PCCS is committed to our school-to-school partnership with the Hope Christian Academy in Haiti. This K-12 Christian school educates 300 students who walk daily from as far as 3 hours from the campus. YvRose, the school's founder, was born in Haiti and moved to the United States to later return to Haiti with an educational mission as her agenda. She and her husband are more than Administrators of the school; they have adopted 24 Haitian orphans and wish they could help more. Most students come to school with a deep desire to learn and worship...and eat (the school provides their one-meal-of-the-day which is comprised of rice and beans). The PCCS service-learning teachers visited this delightful school in May 2012 and were astonished at the joy they saw in the teachers and students in light of the poverty, hunger, lack of government structure, and rioting. The school meets in tents and was blessed last year to have a well dug for onsite water.
Your tax-deductible donation to this fund will go toward a chicken coop. Why is this so important? Many teachers work for no pay, and the resources are sparse. Having a school chicken coop will provide eggs/chickens as a source of income for the school so that it can become more self-sufficient.
See the Photo Gallery - Service for photos of these children, teachers and Haitian campus.
PCCS values diversity in our student body. That is why one of our missions is to offer a lower tuition structure compared to other private schools. However, standard tuition rates are still out of reach for some families seeking a Christ-centered education for their children.
To respond to this need, we have established a Financial Aid Campaign for those families in the low income bracket who wish for their students to attend a Christian school. In order to qualify for financial assistance, these families must demonstrate financial need through a Financial Aid Application (and such students must meet all other Enrollment Application requirements).
Please consider a tax-deductible donation to support these wonderful families and students who have demonstrated financial need.
